The Huizenga Family Legacy

It’s our hope that this special park project forever celebrates the impact of the Huizenga Family and inspires our community to live up to their example.

Wayne Huizenga boldly moved Fort Lauderdale to new heights. Wayne and his wife Marti were dreamers and doers. Their vision, leadership, and generosity moved our community forward.

Let’s celebrate Wayne and Marti Huizenga by keeping their legacy alive by...

Giving Back.

Wayne and Marti Huizenga were devoted friends and pillars of the community. Always involved and giving back, Wayne and Marti set an example that so many strive to follow. Throughout our community, the Huizenga name is a symbol of giving to the community no matter the need. A few of the endless examples include:

  • The Marti Huizenga Animal Shelter at the Humane Society of Broward County.

  • The H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University.

  • Marti Huizenga Club at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.

  • The Huizenga Family Skywalk at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Embracing the Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Wayne was the first person to build three Fortune 500 companies from scratch: AutoNation, Blockbuster, and Waste Management. The success of Wayne’s companies right here in Fort Lauderdale set the stage for our city to become a world-class destination to live, work, and visit.

Creating Countless Memories with Family & Friends.

Wayne brought South Florida to the big leagues. He was the first person in history to become the majority owner of three professional sports teams: the Marlins, Panthers, and Dolphins. Sports create moments that bind communities together for generations – win or lose. By this measure, there was no better community builder than Wayne Huizenga.

Building a Legacy for Future Generations.

Huizenga Park Reimagined celebrates and connects multiple generations of Fort Lauderdale leaders.  This community gathering space is part of a select group of major Fort Lauderdale institutions that the Huizenga’s were deeply committed to.
